Guided tour for groups based on the Camino
Our guided tour of the Way of Saint James focuses on the section of the pilgrimage route that passes through the city of Pamplona. This is a themed tour that follows the Camino de Santiago as it crosses Pamplona, from the Magdalena Bridge to the Taconera Gardens.
The Way of St. James has passed through Pamplona since the 9th century. On this themed guided tour, we’ll explore the city just as so many pilgrims have done since the Middle Ages.
The French way, the most important in terms of the number of pilgrims, passes through Pamplona. We’ll see the best sights and explain the significant influence it has had on the city. We’ll visit the Gate of France and pass by the Cathedral of Santa María the Royal and the Church of Saint Saturnin.
Route
The route is illustrative and we adapt it to the characteristics of the group, the day and the time at which it begins.
We will start the tour in the Magdalena neighborhood and its impressive medieval bridge over the Arga River.
From there, we will head up to the city, entering Pamplona through the gate of France. After walking along the Old Pilgrims’ Route, we’ll continue on to City Hall Square.
Next, we will enter the old burg of Saint Saturnin. Calle Mayor is part of the Camino de Santiago, and we’ll walk along it until we reach the Church of Saint Lawrence.
We will leave the medieval city through the Taconera Gardens.
The tour can include a visit to the Cathedral of Santa María la Real and the “Ultreia” Way of St. James Interpretation Center.
